Trauma & PTSD Therapy

Trauma & PTSD Therapy Using EMDR, IFS, and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

You don’t have to live in the shadow of your past.

The weight of trauma can feel relentless, showing up as flashbacks, constant anxiety, and a feeling of being disconnected from your own life. It can make you feel unsafe in the world and even in your own body.

Whether you’re grappling with a single overwhelming event or the lingering effects of a difficult childhood, the pain is real, and it can feel inescapable.

But healing is not only possible. It’s your right, and it’s well within reach.

At MG Counseling Group, we understand that trauma is not a life sentence, but is instead an injury that needs specialized, compassionate care to heal. We move beyond traditional talk therapy to offer advanced, evidence-based treatments that address trauma at its core.

We integrate powerful modalities like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) to provide a pathway for you to process painful memories, release emotional burdens, and reclaim your life.

With us, you can feel whole again.

Trauma and Its Many Forms

More than just a bad memory, trauma is a deep physiological and psychological wound. When you experience an event that overwhelms your capacity to cope, your nervous system can get stuck in a state of high alert. The past continues to feel like the present, and your brain struggles to understand that the danger has passed.

Our counseling programs address the full spectrum of traumatic experiences:

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event, such as an accident, assault, or combat.

Though these vary person to person, the most common symptoms include intrusive memories, avoidance of reminders of the event, negative changes in mood and thinking, and hypervigilance. It can feel like you’re constantly on guard, unable to relax or feel safe.

Our goal is to help your nervous system reset, allowing you to process the event and move forward without being haunted by it.

Attachment Trauma

Our earliest relationships form the blueprint for how we connect with others. When these bonds are inconsistent, frightening, or neglectful, it can lead to attachment trauma.

As an adult, this may manifest as an intense fear of abandonment, difficulty trusting others, or a pattern of unstable relationships.

Healing attachment trauma involves creating a secure therapeutic relationship where you can safely explore these early wounds and develop a new, healthier template for connection.

Complex and Developmental Trauma

We provide the deep, relational work needed to heal foundational wounds. Unlike single-incident trauma, complex trauma (C-PTSD) results from prolonged, repeated exposure to traumatic events, often within a relationship. This includes experiences like childhood abuse, neglect, or domestic violence.

Developmental trauma specifically refers to trauma that occurs during the most critical stages of childhood development, profoundly impacting your sense of self, your ability to form healthy relationships, and your capacity to regulate your emotions.

Dissociation and Somatic Symptoms

When an experience is too overwhelming, the mind may attempt to protect itself by creating distance. This is called dissociation, and it can range from feeling numb and detached ("zoning out") to more significant memory gaps or a fragmented sense of identity.

Because trauma is stored in the body, it often manifests physically through somatic symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, digestive issues, and headaches. Our integrated approach acknowledges the mind-body connection, helping you reconnect with yourself and release the physical tension trauma leaves behind.

Our Advanced Approach to Healing Trauma

One-size-fits-all therapy is simply not effective, especially when it comes to treating deep-seated trauma. We develop an approach tailored to your unique needs, using a powerful combination of modalities to address cognitive, emotional, and somatic levels.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a structured therapy that helps the brain process and resolve traumatic memories. Through the use of bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping), EMDR helps "unstick" the memory, allowing your brain to file it away as a past event rather than a current threat.

It doesn't erase the memory, but it removes the intense emotional charge, freeing you from its grip. EMDR is highly effective for both single-incident PTSD and complex trauma.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS is a compassionate, non-pathologizing approach that views the mind as being made up of different "parts." The traumatized parts of you may hold the pain, fear, and shame from past events, while other parts work to protect you from that pain, sometimes in self-destructive ways.

IFS helps you connect with these parts with curiosity and compassion, healing the wounded ones and restoring inner harmony. This process empowers your core Self (the calm, confident, and centered essence of who you are) to lead your life.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

For those with severe, treatment-resistant trauma, KAP can be a profound catalyst for healing.  A legal, safe, and effective medicine, ketamine promotes neuroplasticity, temporarily softening the brain's rigid defense patterns. In a controlled therapeutic setting, this creates a window of opportunity to access and process deeply buried traumatic material without feeling overwhelmed.

Guided by an expert therapist, KAP can lead to transformative insights, emotional release, and a renewed sense of hope.
